In January 2015, the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (ABPLM) was created as a separate legal entity with the goal of developing an independent board that included a closed certification exam. Prior to 2015, the program was the AMDA Certification Program. Since there is no longer a goal to create a certification exam, the ABPLM Board considered the benefits of dissolving as a legal entity and becoming a program under the PALTmed umbrella. The ABPLM Board voted in favor of legally dissolving as a separate legal entity effective December 31, 2024.
We are pleased to announce that the Certified Medical Director (CMD) program is now a program of PALTmed and will be overseen by the PALTmed Certification Council. This new structure will ensure the strategic goals of PALTmed and certification continue to align and reflect the needs of those practicing in post-acute and long-term care medicine.
As we continue to transition into this new model, there should be no impact for current CMDs or those currently pursuing initial or recertification.
