The growth of assisted living communities is playing a pivotal role in how older adults live and access their medical care. That’s why PALTmed is holding Care Continuum 26: Embracing the Evolution of Assisted Living on January 28. The agenda for this inaugural virtual symposium includes a combination of panel discussions and small group breakout sessions on the following topics:
Not Your Grandma’s Assisted Living: Evolving Practice Styles in AL
Perspectives on Value-Based Care and Assisted Living
“See Me!”: Providing Person-Directed Care to People with Dementia
How Can Nurses Thrive in Assisted Living?
Building Trust with Families
Wellness in Assisted Living
Regulations, Policies and Legislation: What’s Coming, What’s Not?
Michael Nash, MD, CMD, chair of the Care Continuum 26 workgroup, explains that PALTmed members have expressed increasing interest in education that extends beyond traditional practice in post-acute and long-term care facilities. “Building on the success of the virtual Business of Medicine Symposium that PALTmed hosted in June of 2025, we are launching the first Care Continuum Symposium in January to highlight components of the long-term care continuum outside of a traditional nursing facility. Some examples of this continuum include home health, PACE, and assisted living, which will be the focus in 2026,” he says. “A workgroup of PALTmed members with interest and expertise in assisted living worked together to develop the agenda and identify speakers for this year's symposium.”
He noted that the decision was made to make this a virtual event because it is intended to supplement, not supersede, topics traditionally covered at PALTmed's annual conference. But like the annual conference, there will be an opportunity to network after the sessions are over during a virtual networking happy hour.
The workgroup carefully selected the symposium sessions to appeal to a diverse audience, including clinicians, providers, administrators, operators, nurses, regulators, and even families involved in assisted living communities. Dr. Nash adds, “Each session includes presenters who are actively practicing ‘in the trenches’ of assisted living communities—physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, behavioralists, social workers, and others who will bring real-world experiences and advice to the educational content.”
Dr. Nash concluded by saying, “I'd like to thank the workgroup members for all of their time and work on pulling the symposium together, as well as Erin O'Brien for her assistance in coordinating this effort and the PALTmed board for their support.”
