Policy Snapshot

October 18, 2024

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced recently that it will be revalidating enrolled skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) from October–December 2024 to collect data on ownership, managerial (e.g. medical directors), and related party information. To aid in the collection of that information, CMS updated its Medicare Provider Enrollment Application Form (CMS-855A) and issued sub-regulatory guidance on the new reporting requirements.

The revised CMS Form 855A now includes a SNF attachment which has several additions on individuals’ relationships to the SNF, including if the person serves as the medical director, their roles with policies or procedures, clinical consulting service, administrative services, or management services.

CMS’ sub-regulatory guidance covers all aspects of the new form and how facilities can properly comply with the reporting requirements.
