Congress passed a continuing resolution (H.R. 9747) extending federal funding until December 20, 2024. The measure, which maintains funding at current levels, received bipartisan support, passing the Senate by a vote of 78-18, following a 341-82 approval in the House. This extension averts a government shutdown and provides much-needed financial stability amid ongoing budget debates.
The continuing resolution maintains funding levels for essential federal agencies while allowing more time for negotiations on discretionary spending, social programs, infrastructure investments, and national security.
Following the passage of the stopgap spending bill, Congress recessed early to return to the campaign trail. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to Capitol Hill after the election on November 12, with a short five-week lame-duck session leading up to the December 20 deadline.
