The Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association (PALTmed) has called on congressional leaders to address several pressing issues affecting clinicians in post-acute and long-term care (PALTC) settings. In a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, PALTmed highlighted the need for:

  • Medicare Payment Reform: Implementing a permanent, inflation-based update to Medicare payments to ensure access to care.
  • Telehealth Expansion: Removing barriers and ensuring reimbursement for telehealth services in PALTC settings.
  • Nursing Home Survey Reform: Shifting from punitive measures to a collaborative approach focused on quality improvement.
  • Workforce Challenges: Increasing funding for workforce programs and providing incentives to attract and retain clinicians.
  • Alternative Payment Models: Expanding models that encourage value-based care with necessary flexibility.
  • Health Information Technology: Achieving true interoperability across health-care settings to improve patient care.

PALTmed emphasized the importance of these reforms to ensure high-quality care for vulnerable populations and expressed readiness to collaborate with Congress. Click here to read the letter.
