In today’s challenging political climate, it’s more important than ever to ensure that post-acute and long-term care (PALTC) clinicians’ voices are heard by legislators and staffers on both sides of the aisle. That’s why PALTmed is holding its first-ever Advocacy Summit October 27-28 in Washington, DC.

The initial day of the event will include an overview of the current legislative landscape, an in-depth discussion of the key policy priorities for PALTC, a look at PALTmed’s “asks” for members of Congress and their staffs, and training to help you effectively communicate with Congressional leaders. There will also be opportunities to network with others working in PALTC.

That jam-packed agenda will be followed by a busy day of Capitol Hill meetings to put everything you’ve learned into practice.

“This is the perfect time to make sure we have a voice by meeting with our legislators, as there are many issues that demand our attention and advocacy efforts—such as the restructuring at CMS and the CDC, staffing concerns, value-based care, reimbursement impacts to the Physician Fee Schedule and Medicaid rates, and more,” says Timothy Holahan, DO, CMD, chair of PALTmed’s Public Policy Committee.

“The Advocacy Summit will provide an unbelievable opportunity to participate in active dialogue on the Hill,” he continues. “It is very important to learn how to communicate effectively with members of Congress and their staffs to improve the care in post-acute and long-term care facilities, as well as continue to stress the value that our clinicians provide in this field of medicine.”

Because the individuals on Capitol Hill are not experts on PALTC, they appreciate the opportunity to learn from PALTmed members and discuss relevant issues.

Dr. Holahan believes everyone involved in PALTC will benefit from attending the summit. He explains, ”I think this is a vital opportunity for all providers and health-care workers as the environment at many levels of health care in this country is changing rapidly. The more people who join us, the stronger our voice will be!”

An Early Bird registration rate is available through September 12. In addition, the Foundation for PALTC Medicine is providing one $1,500 travel award or two $750 travel awards for an early career PALTC practitioner to attend the summit through the Dr. Rajeev Kumar PALTC Leadership & Advocacy Travel Award.
