A new bill aimed at addressing ongoing concerns over Medicare physician payment cuts was introduced in the Senate on May 7. The Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2025 (S. 1640), sponsored by Sen. Roger Marshall, MD (R-KS), seeks to temporarily reverse a 2.83% cut to Medicare physician payments that took effect in January.

In addition to rolling back the cut, the legislation proposes a 2% positive payment update for physicians from June through December 2025. This measure aligns with similar legislation introduced in the House earlier this year (H.R. 879); both aim to restore some financial stability for Medicare payments.

PALTmed supports the bill and hopes it is a step toward broader, long-term reforms needed to modernize and stabilize the Medicare payment system. Contact your members of Congress and urge them to support this legislation.
