One of the keys to the success of PALTmed’s Annual Conference is its outstanding educational sessions. In previous years, that content was solicited through a Call for Papers. This year, however, the association is expanding its ask to a Call for Educational Content that will encompass not only the Annual Conference but a variety of other programs as well. The deadline for submissions is Monday, August 11.
As David Siskind, MD, CMD, vice chair of the Program Planning Workgroup, explains, “We decided to expand to a broader Call for Educational Content as we receive more excellent content/presentations than we can accommodate in the annual conference. Many of these presentations would be well suited to individual sessions or focused themed sessions, such as the Business of Medicine Symposium and the Advocacy Summit, scheduled at other times throughout the year.”
PALTmed welcomes submissions on all topics pertinent to PALTC medicine and medical direction, including:
- Behavioral health
- Billing and coding
- Communication with patients and families
- Deprescribing and medication optimization
- Ethical dilemmas
- Infectious disease
- Palliative and end-of-life care
- Quality measures
- Transitions of care/continuity of care
- Updates on pharmacotherapies
- Wound care
While you can see a complete list of topics online, Dr. Siskind has a few specific suggestions. ”Artificial Intelligence in our care setting is a topic at the forefront of everyone’s mind,” he notes. “Others are new CMS regulations, psychoactive medications, and successful transitions of care.”
Dr. Siskind has other advice as well. First, he recommends making a presentation interesting to a broad audience by providing a few practical, implementable take-away initiatives. In addition, he says that it “should be evidence-based but not get bogged down in too many statistics or overly detailed references and citations.”
He also has tips for first-time submitters: (1) “Don’t be afraid…We have all been there and have grown professionally because we took that first step.” (2) “Please read and follow the submission directions. They are designed to help you make a successful submission.”
And, finally, he urges anyone with questions to reach out to PALTmed staff at education@paltmed.org.
