THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association (PALTmed) support the autonomy of individual prescribers which allows medical treatment plans with potentially Beers Criteria inappropriate medications when benefits outweigh risks;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association (PALTmed) formally communicate this concern to the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) for recognition that the Beers Criteria are intended to be guidelines for prescribing and not a regulation intended to encroach on the practice of medicine and have them convey that to state surveyors and pharmacy benefits managers.
