October 14, 2025
On October 22 at 8:00 PM ET, the American Medical Association (AMA) is bringing together leaders from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) for a webinar that provides details about the Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) model, which will introduce new prior authorization processes in the Medicare fee-for-service program beginning on January 1, 2026.
The WISeR model is being piloted initially in six states (New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and Washington) and will include service categories such as skin and tissue substitutes, electrical nerve stimulator implants, and knee arthroscopy for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The model will use advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence to support an efficient prior authorization process and is intended to curb waste, fraud, and abuse.
The webinar will discuss feedback from AMA to CMMI on WISeR model policies, additional operational details, and implications for impacted providers and patients. There will also be an opportunity to raise questions to CMMI leadership. You will be able to submit questions during registration and during the webinar to be answered directly by CMMI.
