The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for code G2211, which is an office and outpatient (O/O) evaluation and management (E/M) visit complexity add one code. All medical professionals who can bill O/O E/M visits (CPT codes 99202-99205, 99211-99215), regardless of specialty, may use the code with O/O E/M visits of any level. CMS does not restrict G2211 to medical professionals based on specialties.
CMS did clarify that G2211 cannot be billed with code sets for other E/M services (e.g., hospital inpatient, emergency department, home or residence, and nursing facility).
