CMS Proposed Model Test Would Lower Drug Costs for Medicare Part D

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the newly proposed GUARD (Guarding U.S. Medicare Against Rising Drug Costs) Model that would lower the costs of certain prescription drugs covered by Medicare Part D to reflect prices paid in economically comparable countries.

GUARD would help make critical prescriptions more accessible for people with Medicare Part D, better enabling them to follow their prescribed care for optimal health outcomes and alleviating financial strain on Medicare.

This proposed drug model advances the Innovation Center’s commitment to help people with Medicare live healthier lives and promote the sustainability of the Medicare program through more affordable medications.
