Policy Snapshot

November 18, 2024

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is revalidating skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) enrolled in Medicare as part of a comprehensive effort to collect updated data on ownership, managerial structures, and related parties. This revalidation process will take place from October to December 2024, and SNFs are required to submit their information by May 1, 2025.

Facilities will receive a revalidation notice from their Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) and must report the required data using the updated Medicare Provider Enrollment Application (Form CMS-855A).

CMS is now publishing the collected data on its data.cms.gov website. This information will be accessible for public exploration, allowing users to examine trends and relationships within nursing home ownership structures. However, sensitive personal data, such as social security numbers, will not be included in the published records.

For more details, visit the PALTmed website or consult the CMS updates on sub-regulatory guidance, which will continue to provide additional information about the reporting requirements and published data.
