Who should apply to the Futures Program?

Residents, fellows, early-career physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs), and physicians and APPs who are new to post-acute and long-term care (PALTC) are encouraged to apply.

Do I need experience in PALTC to apply?

The program welcomes clinicians who are exploring PALTC or are new to the field. It provides an introduction to practice opportunities, professional connections, and ways to become involved.

When and where does the 2027 program begin?

The program begins at PALTmed27 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, March 18–20, 2027. The dedicated Futures day on March 18 is required.

What happens after the annual meeting?

Futures is a year-long experience. Through Futures Connect, participants continue learning, connect with PALTC leaders and peers, and explore opportunities for involvement. Participants must also complete required evaluations and surveys.

What materials do I need to apply?

You must upload all four materials with your online application: a current CV or resume, a Letter of Interest, a Letter of Support from your program director or a supporting PALTmed member, and a current headshot. The CV or resume and both letters may be submitted as PDF or DOCX files.

What should I include in my Letter of Interest?

Describe your interest in PALTC, what you hope to learn, and how you would use the knowledge and connections gained through Futures. Your five-year career plan is requested separately in the application.

Is financial assistance available?

Airfare and hotel assistance is available through PALTmed/Foundation. Indicate your needs in the application. Specific funding and travel arrangements will be shared with accepted participants.

Which meals and other expenses are covered?

Meals provided as part of Futures are covered. Participants are responsible for other meals and transportation costs.

Does participation include PALTmed membership?

Yes. Participants receive PALTmed membership, including access to the member forum, a JAMDA subscription, education discounts, PALTC-focused resources, and opportunities for continued learning and volunteer involvement.

When can I apply, and whom should I contact with questions?

Applications are expected to open in late October or early November. The application link will be posted on this page when available. For questions, contact Erin Kabot at ekabot@paltmed.org.
